POSSESSION OF STEROIDS – BEING CHARGED IN PENNSYLVANIA

Anabolic steroids are very popular and common in gyms. From athletes and bodybuilders trying to improve their performance to amateurs and the average Joe seeking to improve his looks, steroid use is fairly common. However, possession of even a small amount is enough to suffer the harshest penalties.

Steroids are considered a Schedule III drug. Although most people do not consider steroids as dangerous as street drugs it is considered a controlled substance in Pennsylvania. Punishments are comparable to much harsher drugs such as cocaine or methamphetamine.

An arrest is not a conviction.

If you find yourself under arrest for possession of steroids contact an experienced Pittsburgh drug defense attorney immediately.

At Shrager Defense Attorneys, we will fight your charges to keep your record clean.

PUNISHMENT FOR POSSESSION OF STEROIDS

For a first time offense, the punishment for simple possession of steroids is a misdemeanor carrying a penalty of up to one year in prison, a $1,000.00 fine and loss of your license for a period of up to six months.

Any subsequent offense would increase your jail time. For example, a second offense would carry a penalty of up to two years and jail and a third time offense up to three years in jail with increased fines.

If you have a large amount of steroids in your possession, you could be charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver (PWID) which carries very harsh penalties.

POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER (PWID)

A Possession with Intent to Deliver charge is a very serious crime in the State of Pennsylvania and could also subject you to Federal minimum sentencing guidelines.

The penalties for a first offense is a felony that carries a prison sentence of up to five years and up to $15,000 in fines.

Don’t be scared. Be prepared.

Steroid use does not seem dangerous to the average person, so it is often overlooked. Police set up stings in gyms to catch people distributing and/or buying steroids.

Your desire to build muscle or improve your looks is not worth losing your freedom. An experienced drug offense attorney can help get your charges reduced or wiped out entirely.

At Shrager Defense Attorneys we understand that good people make mistakes and that some charges are unwarranted and should be dropped. We are here to help you understand the legal system and the charges you face as well as the options you have under the law.

Every drug charge is worth fighting — it is possible to have drug charges dropped or a heavy sentence greatly reduced.
