After Jury Deadlock, Probation Plea Offered in Sex Offense Case
Our client was charged by a statewide grand jury with indecent assault by forcible compulsion, indecent assault without consent, and corruption of minors. He was facing up to fifteen years of jail and the requirement to register as a sex offender for crimes against a young boy which he was alleged to have committed while an elder at the Jehovah’s Witness church. Although the case was in Allegheny County, the Office of the Attorney General was prosecuting the case and would not offer an acceptable plea bargain. Attorney Dresbold was able to find contradictions in the testimony of the victim and suggested alternate innocent explanations for the alleged conduct. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, and a mistrial was declared. Based on what happened at trial, the Attorney General relented and offered a plea bargain for probation.
