INDECENT EXPOSURE CHARGES IN PENNSYLVANIA
Information on What Happens if You Are Charged with Indecent Exposure
No matter the type, sex crimes are often life-altering for those who have been charged or convicted of one. Not only do you have to serve penalties that include significant jail time and fines, but for some, include registering as a sex offender. In addition, there is a strong negative social stigma that can make you a social outcast.
Indecent exposure is no different. While it may not seem as violent or aggressive as sexual assault or rape, the penalties are quite severe and you will be classified as a criminal if found guilty. In order to protect your job, your reputation and your future, you will need an experienced sex crime attorney to fight for your rights.
Attorney David Shrager provides compassionate counsel and will listen to your side of the story with understanding and empathy, not judgment, reproof or apathy. His law firm will aggressively seek action to prove your innocence and have your charges dropped completely.
Being charged with a sex crime does not mean that you are guilty or that you will be proven guilty or convicted. It is crucial to speak with an experienced sex crime attorney to better understand your rights and how you can best defend them.

INDECENT EXPOSURE IN PENNSYLVANIA
The crime of indecent exposure occurs when a person exposes their genitals in a public space or in any place where other people are present, and he or she knows, or should know, that their conduct is likely to “offend, affront or alarm” the others who are present.
Many people often assume that a sex crime must be sexual in nature for you to be found guilty. While that may be true for the majority of sex crimes, that is not the case with indecent exposure.
You can be charged with indecent exposure for public urination, or even a situation where your genitals may have been inadvertently exposed. If someone witnesses you with your genitals exposed and is offended by your conduct, you can be charged. The fact is, the prosecution does not have to prove that you intended to offend anyone. They simply must prove that your conduct was offensive to the people present and that you should have known that your conduct would be offensive to a reasonable person.

DEFENSES TO INDECENT EXPOSURE
There are many defenses to sex crimes. It is important to know and understand your rights, the laws and how to fight to protect your rights and your freedom.
In one example, perhaps the location of the defendant at the time of exposure was not actually considered a public space – or it would be surprising to find any others present at the location. This could be a valid defense to your indecent exposure charge.
It is also possible that you did not believe that the persons present would not in any way be offended or alarmed.
Sex crime cases often involve a lot of he said/she said scenarios. Void of any actual proof, an attorney can be your best chance in a case that involves unsubstantiated allegations.
