Allegheny County Jury Trials Resume in New Location
Allegheny County will resume process of jury selection and jury process at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
As the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported, the new jury selection process will now take place in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
While other counties have already resumed jury trials, Allegheny County has been put on hold since March, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Post-Gazette Reports:
“Jury selection will begin Wednesday in two large convention center halls, each housing a maximum of 80 potential jurors. Chairs will be spread out several feet apart so people can distance themselves from one another. Traffic court already is using the building, and other areas will be used for civil cases.”
Pittsburgh Criminal Attorney David Shrager is quoted in the article: “We can’t suspend people’s constitutional rights, and we can’t put people in harm’s way.”
Mr. Shrager believes the county is doing its best to make the process as safe as possible.
